Kiwi Adventures – Day 8
Another day, another glacier. This time Franz Josef Glacier, just a few miles further north up the coast from Fox Glacier. A fairly strenuous walk and a bit of a climb up to the viewing platform took us past so many impressive waterfalls and some interesting shapes created in the rocks by the flows of ice & water.
The scale of this frozen landscape is hard to convey. The small dot in the sky above the glacier in the pic below is a helicopter.
Leaving the glaciers behind we began travelling up the west coast towards Greymouth. More lakes and some Black Swans.
The weather changed and the rain set in, so not many more pics from day 8. Although this unusual piece of sculpture next to a beach caught my attention.
Getting dark by the time we arrived in Greymouth for the night.
Final part of the Kiwi Adventures blogs will be days 9 & 10. Across the South Island, a slight detour and then back to Christchurch.
